Throwback Thursday: Maurice Greene, 2005

On June 11, 2005, Maurice Greene, two-time Olympic gold medalist, five-time World Champion and former World Record-holder, won the 100-meter dash at the first-ever adidas (then Reebok) Grand Prix.

At the age of 30, Greene “was strutting again,” reported the Associated Press, “and he earned the right.” Greene had just beaten Shawn Crawford, who sat unhappily in the press conference listening to Greene proclaim, “I was born with confidence.”

“I’m like wine,” Greene said with a wide smile. “The older I get, the better it is.”
