Symmonds To Race 800 In New York

Eugene, Oregon – The Oregon Track Club Elite’s Nick Symmonds will lead the team to New York this weekend to compete at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York City.  The event, which is in its first year as a part of the IAAF’s Diamond League, will be held on June, 12^th at Icahn Stadium from 3:00pm – 6:00pm. 

Coming off of arguably his best year in 2009, Symmonds, a 2008 Olympian, will make his season debut at 800 meters in New York.  Joining Symmonds in New York will be Sally Kipyego in the women’s 5,000 meters.  Kipyego ranked fifth in the world indoors at the distance.  In the men’s Steeplechase OTC Elite will be represented by 2008 Olympian Billy Nelson and Ben Bruce.  Rounding out OTC Elite’s squad in New York is 2009 USA World Championship team member, Will Leer, who will compete in the 1,500 meters.

OTC Elite will also have athletes competing in Indiana and Portland this weekend as Matt Scherer will race the 800 meters in Indiana at the American Milers Series on the 12^th.  Competing for OTC Elite at the Portland Distance Festival on the campus of Lewis and Clark will be Elias Koech and Mark Wieczorek in the 800 meters, and Kevin Chelimo, Ian Dobson and Ben True in the 5,000 meters.
