Jernigan, Whitney Lead adidas Grand Prix Dream 100s

Jamaican Sprinters to Challenge Top U.S. Preps on Saturday in NYC

NEW YORK CITY (June 11, 2014)—Terry Jernigan and Kaylin Whitney, both with the #2 prep times in the country this season for 100 meters, lead the fields for the adidas Boys’ and Girls’ Dream 100s at Saturday’s adidas Grand Prix, organizers announced today.

Tickets for the event, which is marking its 10th year of bringing the world’s top athletes to Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, are still available at www.adidasgrandprix.com or by calling 1-877-849-8722. Among the dozens of Olympic and World Champions expected are David Rudisha, Jenn Suhr, Yohan Blake, Bohdan Bondarenko, Jenny Simpson,and Valerie Adams.

In the adidas Boys’ Dream 100, Jernigan (Clermont, FL) ran 10.27 in winning the Golden South Classic, and is the Florida 4A state champion at 100 meters and 200 meters. He will be joined by:

Kendal Williams (Jacksonville, FL), two-time state champion at 100 meters whose time of 10.28 ranks him #3 in the U.S. right behind Jernigan;

Andre Ewers (Sunrise, FL), the Florida 4A state runner-up at 100 meters and 200 meters with the #4 time in the U.S. this season of 10.31;

Mike Wells (St. Louis, MO), the Kansas Relays 100-meter champion and 2014 state champion at 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters;

Malcolm White (Katy, TX), the 2014 state 5A 100-meter runner-up; #8 in the U.S. at 10.39;

Nigel Ellis (St. Elizabeth Tech, JAM), member of 4x100- and 4x400-meters teams that won U-18 gold medal at 2014 CARIFTA Games; 2014 small-school 4x100-meter winner, Penn Relays; and
 
Oraine Palmer (St. Georges College, JAM), ran lead-off on fourth-place team in the 2014 Boys’ High School Championship of America 4x100-meters at Penn Relays.

In the adidas Girls’ Dream 100, Whitney (Clermont, FL), brings the fastest 100-meter (11.30) this season to the field, which she recorded just last weekend along with a wind-aided 22.80 at 200 meters, the seventh-fastest prep 200 meters in history under all conditions. She is the 2014 4A state champion at both distances.

She will be challenged by:

Ky Westbrook (Chandler, AZ), the depending Girls’ Dream 100 champion, 2013 IAAF World Youth Champion, and 13-time Arizona state champion;

Krystal Sparling (Fort Lauderdale, FL), with the #3 prep time in the U.S. (11.34);

Teahna Daniels (Orlando, FL), the Golden South Classic winner and 1A state champion at 100 meters and 200 meters with the #4 time in the U.S. (11.38);

Kortnei Johnson (Italy, TX), the 2013 and 2014 1A state champion at 100 meters and 200 meters, and state record-holder at 100 meters;

Alleandra Watt (Colorado Springs, CO), the Kansas Relays 100-meter winner; and 5A state champion at 100 meters,200 meters,4x100 meters, and 4x200 meters;

Shayna Yon (Aurora, CO), #10 in the U.S. in 2014 for 60 meters; and

Rene Medley (Vere Tech HS, JAM), and Monique Spencer (Edwin Allen HS, JAM).

The adidas Dream Miles and Dream 100 races will be shown live on USATF.TV between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. EDT, and will be shown in capsule form on NBC Sports Network, which will broadcast the meet live from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. EDT. USATF.TV will resume coverage of the meet from 6 p.m.-6:30 p.m., before its “Cool Down” show begins.

One of the premier track-and-field events in the world, the adidas Grand Prix has hosted two World Records and 15 National Records in its first nine years, and its fans have had the privilege of witnessing almost a dozen performances that were the fastest ever recorded on U.S. soil.
